Interactive’s sustainability approach is grounded in long-term responsibility, disciplined execution, and leadership through action, not aspiration. Our commitment to renewable energy reflects a deliberate strategy to reduce environmental impact while continuing to deliver resilient, enterprise-grade technology services.

Interactive has made one of the most ambitious renewable energy commitments in the Australian data centre sector. In 2019, our board set a clear mandate transition to 100% renewable energy by 2030 a target that places us well ahead of peers and the broader industry. We are now projecting to reach 101% renewable energy coverage by 2029, a full year ahead of our own target.

How we’re achieving it

Starting from 14% renewable coverage in 2019, we have built a strategy that combines smart procurement with real operational change.  

Our approach includes: 

• Advanced monitoring and forecasting of energy consumption based on customer demand  
• Strategic purchase of Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) to offset electricity use and support Australia’s renewable energy market  
• Securing LGC futures through to 2030 to protect both our commitments and our customers from energy market volatility  
• Investment in on-site solar generation where feasible  
• Continuous infrastructure upgrades to improve energy efficiency and utilisation  

Together, these initiatives allow us to reduce energy intensity while steadily increasing the proportion of renewable electricity supporting our operations. 

What this means for our customers

Sustainability is rapidly shifting from a competitive differentiator to a regulatory requirement. As mandatory climate reporting expands across Australia, organisations are being asked to account not only for their own emissions, but also those generated across their supply chains. 

Technology infrastructure is a material part of that footprint. Data centres are energy-intensive by nature, and the sustainability credentials of your infrastructure provider increasingly matter not just operationally, but environmentally and reputationally.
